GARDAI UNCOVER MORTAR BOMBS IN COUNTY KILDARE
IRISH police have uncovered 20 mortar bombs during a security operation in County Kildare.
The bombs were discovered on Sunday afternoon in undergrowth along the Royal Canal near Athy. Firearms, rockets and rocket launchers were also found at three separate locations throughout the county.
Gardai were actually searching the area for a dissident republican training camp when the arms were found. Detectives are still questioning two men arrested on Saturday in connection with the operation.
The Government meanwhile is seeking the extradition of three dissident republican suspects arrested in Slovakia.
The NIO said on Friday it had been made aware of the arrest of the trio, who have not been named. However, Slovakian police have denied reports that they are detaining the three.
