Woman Injured In Petrol Bomb Attack
A woman has been injured following a petrol bomb attack on her home in Coleraine.
The 41-year-old woman has received burns to her legs - while her young child escaped injury.
The woman and her five-year-old daughter were at home in Wheatfield Gardens at 22:30 when the device was thrown through the front window. The woman received treatment in hospital for her burns but her injuries are not believed to be serious.
Police who are now trying to establish a motive for the attack have appealed for information regarding two males that were seen running from the house or anyone who witnessed the incident.
Meanwhile SDLP East Derry MLA John Dallat has hit out at those responsible for the attack.
Mr Dallat said:"Thank God we are not talking about a murder in Coleraine, a lady burned alive by mindless morons who did not know if the petrol bomb they threw would cause superficial damage to a house or send someone into eternity in a fire ball.
"There is no reason, no excuse why this lady should be attacked like this. There is no suggestion from the police of sectarianism or racism and the only thing clear is that we have very dangerous people who have come very close to murder and that is serious, deadly serious.
"I would appeal to anyone with any information ,no matter how trivial they feel it is, to get in touch with the CID at Coleraine PSNI Station immediately. By doing so they may save a life because next time the victim may not be so lucky to escape with burns only."
