New Traders Set Up Stall at St George's Market
St George's Market has opened its doors to nine new local businesses boosting its range of food and craft offerings.
The businesses are taking part in Belfast City Council's pilot 'Market Start Up Programme' which was launched in December to provide support to people who wanted to set up food or craft businesses and try out their products through trading at the city's historic market.
The nine new businesses have been offered stalls at St George's for two Sundays this month (18th and 25th March) to test trade. The range of products introduced by the businesses varies from vintage jewellery and clothes to cupcakes and buns, jams and chutneys, a new raclette dish, plush teddies, and fresh fruit products.
Alderman Christopher Stalford, Chairman of Belfast City Council's Development Committee, said: "The council is committed to supporting new and existing retailers and this programme, which we are piloting, gives new artisan food producers and craft producers a chance to sell and see whether markets are a suitable outlet.
"We have had very positive feedback and are delighted at how well the programme is progressing. I wish all the companies well on starting up their businesses."
The Market Start Up Programme was open to residents of the Belfast City Council area.
