DERRY TRAVELLERS JOIN THE JET SET

BRITISH Airways have introduced a faster jet service to cut down travelling times between City of Derry Airport and Manchester.

The link between the province and the North West England, started in 1996 with the introduction of a .29-seater Jetstream 41 turbo prop aircraft British Regional Airlines, but this service has been recently replaced by a faster, larger 49-seater Embraer 145 regional jet aircraft.

Flight times to Manchester will be reduced by ten minutes and there will be the capacity to service an additional 280 seats per week on the route to meet demand from business travellers.

British Regional Airlines’ Head of Sales & Marketing Steve Boyd said: “Flights now take only 65 minutes with the introduction of our latest state-of-the-art Embraer jet aircraft. We have seen business links between both regions become increasingly stronger in the technology, manufacturing and chemical industries and believe that the time is now right for a larger, quicker jet service. I am sure leisure travellers visiting the North of England will also be impressed with the new addition to our service.”

Manchester Airport is within easy reach of Manchester city centre and Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire and the Lake District.

The region offers a number of activities for tourists, including golf, fishing, cycling and walking, as well as a wide selection of bars and restaurants and shops in Manchester.

On weekdays, flights land at City of Derry Airport at 11.45am and take off for Manchester at 12.15pm. While at weekends, flights arrive at City of Derry Airport at 12.45pm on Saturdays and at 3.25pm on Sundays with flights departing to Manchester at 1.15pm on Saturdays and 3.55pm on Sundays.

Return fares start from £96 including all taxes, fees and charges. (SP)
