Belfast Welcome Centre To Be Relocated
Belfast's main tourist office is be relocated to a more 'appropriate' site at a cost of over £1.5 million.
The Belfast Welcome Centre, run by Belfast City Council, currently occupies the first floor of a building in Donegall Place but the council have approved its relocation.
It is understood that the centre, that gives information about Belfast's tourism scene, will move to a new ground floor location at a building in Donegall Square which, previously housed a branch of the Northern Bank.
The building, to which the centre is moving to, will require a complete refit in order to house the centre and it is thought the move will cost approximately £1.62m.
The council said a ground floor site was more appropriate for a tourist centre and is hoping the Northern Ireland Tourist Board will help fund the project.

Tourism in Belfast has received a boost with the announcement that work has started on a new visitor information centre. The £1.8m project will see a new centre built in the city centre, located opposite City Hall.

Construction has begun on a new, £600,000 state of the art visitor centre at Belfast Zoo. The new entrance pavilion will include a new souvenir shop, pay-booths and payment systems, a covered walkway for wet weather shelter and a tourist exhibition space focussing on native and non-native wildlife.

Belfast Welcome Centre posts record visitor numbers
The first base for tourists in Belfast, the Welcome Centre in the city’s main thoroughfare is celebrating its first birthday. The tourism flagship on Belfast’s Royal Avenue, is also celebrating that the state-of-the-art centre received almost a quarter of a million tourists since it opened a year ago.
