Children Sent To Hospital After Needle Find
East Belfast has been left in shock as reports emerge about a nine-year-old girl collecting and bringing home discarded needles used by drug addicts.
Madison Faulkner, was one of four children taken to hospital over the weekend as a precaution after finding the needles in a number of locations in East Belfast.
It is understood that police seized needles from a park on the Newtownards Road but the young girl also found needles lying at the side of a garden several yards from her home at Yukon Street.
Judith Cochrane Alliance MLA said: "I can not believe that somebody has left these medical needles where children have found them. This is completely irresponsible. I have no idea what could possess somebody to leave something so dangerous in a children's play park.
"I would caution children about picking anything that they are not sure about and encourage them to instead contact a responsible adult.
"If anybody has any information about these medical needles then I would urge them to contact the police."
