MAN QUESTIONED ABOUT NELSON MURDER
A MAN has been arrested and is currently being held in custody in Armagh in connection with the murder of solicitor Rosemary Nelson in 1999.
Rosemary Nelson, a Catholic mother-of-three, died in a car booby trap explosion near her home in Lurgan on March 15, 1999.
Police have arrested a 32-year-old man, believed to be from County Armagh. He was arrested in Plymouth and was detained with the help of the Devon and Cornwall police. He has been arrested on suspicion of committing serious terrorist offences. He is currently being held in custody in Gough Detention Centre in Armagh.
Last week two men, aged 41 and 43, were held for questioning about serious terrorist offences but were subsequently released. Norfolk police said that the 41-year-old man was questioned about alleged firearm offences and released. Police say that the second 43-year-old man has been released pending further inquiries by the Rosemary Nelson Inquiry team.
The inquiry team headed by Norfolk Deputy Chief Constable Colin Port are investigating Rosemary Nelson’s death. The inquiry was initiated following allegations of security force collusion in the death and because the Lurgan solicitor had represented the nationalist Garvaghy Road Resident’s Coalition and other high profile cases.
