IRISH PRIDE DEAL REVIVES ORMEAU BAKERY
ORMEAU Bakery looks set to reaffirm its position as Northern Ireland’s leading bakery with the announcement of a million pound deal with Irish Pride Bakeries.
The deal, announced on Monday, June 12, will see the Ormeau Bakery supply nine premium bread products from its traditional Irish range to be marketed under the Irish Pride brand in outlets across the Republic.
The contract provides Ormeau Bakery with further market opportunities in the South. Ormeau already supplies Marks and Spencer’s and Iceland stores throughout the Republic with a range of premium and speciality Irish products.
Stuart McCullough, Ormeau sales and marketing director said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce this significant deal with Irish Pride Bakeries. We work hard to consistently produce top quality products which meet the high standards demanded by the Irish consumer.
“Ormeau Bakery is committed to providing high quality, value for money products in traditional speciality and organic ranges.
“This deal will allow the Irish consumer to have widespread access to the 125-year-old Ormeau tradition and the best of our exciting new baking techniques.”
Briege Little, Sales Director of Irish Pride Bakeries said: “Irish Pride bakeries and Ormeau Bakery have worked closely together to produce a full range of traditional Irish breads. I am delighted that local product from Northern Ireland can now be enjoyed throughout Ireland.

Bakery proprietor fined for food safety offences
A home bakery proprietor has been fined by Belfast Magistrates for food safety offences. At Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon, south Belfast home bakery proprietor John McKeag received a fine of £4,500, with £263 costs, for nine offences under The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995.

A bakery in Newtownabbey could be facing legal action after it refused a request from a customer to make a cake supporting gay marriage rights. Asher's Bakery, a Christian-run bakery, is understood to have received an order from a Mr Gareth Lee which asked for a cake to feature the Sesame Street puppets Bert and Ernie.
