£800,000 Drugs Seized In Derry
SDLP Foyle MLA, Colum Eastwood, has welcomed the seizure of £800,000 worth of drugs in Derry.
The discovery was made by police on the Glengalliagh Road at about 7 o'clock on Monday evening. A man has been arrested.
Mr Eastwood said the size of the haul was significant. He also emphasised that organisations such as RAAD should get the message and get off the stage. He said police resources could be more focused in carrying out such seizures if the counter-productive vigilantism of RAAD was removed from the local equation.
He said: "This seizure is to be welcomed by the whole of our community. If delivered, these drugs would have further fuelled the drugs crisis which is pervading this city.
"The quantity of the find should act as warning as to the scale of the drugs habit in this city, a habit which for many can escalate into the black hole of addiction.
"This find should also act to send a clear message to those involved in counter-productive vigilantism, most notably those in RAAD."
