One Day In The Life Of

Three Belfast primary school children were as proud as punch after winning the One Day In The Life Of photography competition this week.

Their attempts at framing and capturing the world around them were made possible by the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts, who provided cameras and tuition for the children.

The winning entries were announced on Wednesday night at the RUA's gallery space in River House, High Street, Belfast.

They were Shannon Mongan of Taughmonagh Primary School, Craig Stewart of Euston Street Primary School, and Caoimhe Shannon of St Joseph’s Primary School, Slate Street.

RUA president Julian Friers said the photographs taken by the children were "fascinating" and judges said the first-time photographers came up with a "truly exceptional" standard of work.

Internationally acclaimed Northern Irish photographer Paul Seawright, known particularly for his 1988 series Sectarian Murder, was responsible for picking the final three.

An exhibition of more than 90 of the children's images is on display until June 20 at the River House Gallery.

The One Day In The Life Of competition and exhibition were sponsored by KPMG and made possible by the Arts and Business Investment Programme, whose principal funder is the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
