Anaconda Wins First Sales In Chile
Anaconda Equipment International in Cookstown has won a £200,000 contract to supply materials handling machinery to one of Chile’s biggest copper mines.
The company, which has been assisted by Invest Northern Ireland to develop export sales through participation in trade missions and at exhibitions, has supplied screening and conveying equipment to turn mining waste into construction materials.
The contract, announced by Con Gallagher, Anaconda’s Sales and Marketing Director, followed the company’s participation in last year’s ConExpo show for the quarrying, mining and materials handling industry in Las Vegas.
Another outcome of the show was the agreement with a major machinery distributor, TME in Santiago, to market the company’s equipment throughout the country.
The deal, Anaconda’s first in Chile, was welcomed by Maurice Patterson, Invest NI Trade Development Services.
Mr Patterson said: "Anaconda's success in Chile is an excellent example of the quality of business that can result from participation in major international trade shows such as ConExpo. This is a market-driven company that has benefited from a range of Invest NI trade and other services and is continuing to grow strongly.
"Assisting the growth of the materials handling industry, one of Northern Ireland’s most successful sectors, has long been a key focus for Invest NI. Companies such as Anaconda have responded very positively to our initiatives and have secured good business abroad.
"We have identified Chile as a market offering substantial growth potential for companies particularly in mining and recycling because copper mining makes such an important contribution to the economy there. To help companies explore these opportunities, we will be organising a trade mission later this year that will be based in Santiago.
"The company is also part of the largest-ever group from Northern Ireland displaying equipment at the International Machinery Exhibition at Hillhead, Derbyshire in June."
