Mark Harbinson Conviction Upheld By Court Of Appeal
Prominent loyalist Mark Harbinson, jailed for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl, has failed to overturn his conviction at the Court of Appeal.
The 45-year-old, from Stoneyford in County Antrim was jailed for three and a half years in May 2011.
The judges at the Court of Appeal said the evidence against Harbinson was "compelling" and ruled that the original verdict was safe.
His legal team appealed on the basis of the girl's allegedly unreliable evidence.
However Lord Justice Girvan upheld the original conviction, saying: "While the complainant's evidence on some of the details surrounding the events of the night in question may have been unsatisfactory we are wholly unpersuaded that the jury reached an unsafe verdict on the core allegations."
Harbinson, who came to prominence during the Drumcree marching protest, protested his innocence during his trial and appeal.

Police responded to a number of offences, including resisting and obstructing police, and assault on police. Three men, aged 18, 20, and 21, have been charged and are due to appear in court in December.

Last Man Sentenced To Death In UK Has Conviction Quashed
The last man in the UK to be sentenced to death has had his conviction quashed when a court heard that he confessed to the crime after being waterboarded and subjected to death threats. His successful appeal comes 39 years after his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

Crymble to appeal murder conviction
A County Armagh woman is set to appeal her conviction for murdering her husband, a court has heard today. Jacqueline Crymble, 35, and Roger Ferguson, 31,were found guilty of murdering Paul Crymble three years ago at Richill in 20 June 2004.

Ashers Bakery Wins Supreme Court Appeal
The Christian owners of a Northern Ireland bakery have won their Supreme Court appeal in the so-called 'gay cake' discrimination case, a decision that has divided politicians. The UK's highest court ruled today that Asher's bakery was not discriminating against a customer when it refused to make a cake with the slogan "Support Gay Marriage" on it.

Police Appeal After 'Shot Fired' In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after reports of a shot being fired in north Belfast. No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident in the Farringdon Court area on Thursday. Police are keen to establish what happened and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.
