Former Carton Brothers' Workers Accept Proposals Ending Long-Running Dispute
Former workers at the Carton Brothers' hatchery in Carrickmacross, Co. Mongahan, have voted to accept proposals agreed between the company and SIPTU which bring an equitable conclusion to a long running dispute concerning outstanding redundancy payments.
The workers accepted the proposals, which provide for a full and final settlement of all matters relating to the dispute, today (Thursday, 21st June).
SIPTU Manufacturing Division Organiser, Gerry McCormack, said; “The workers are satisfied that these proposals once implemented will bring an equitable and fair conclusion to this dispute. SIPTU will request its legal team to withdraw pending High Court proceedings related to this dispute on foot of implementation of the company’s proposals in full.”
The dispute involved 23 former workers, several with over 30 years’ service, who were demanding that the company honour a redundancy deal worth over €500,000. The workers agreed the redundancy deal under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission in 2008 as part of the company’s closure of its hatchery in Carrickmacross.
