Christine Bleakley Tells Of Health Scare
Northern Irish TV star Christine Bleakley has told of a health scare that left her cancer-conscious and wary of the sun.
The Dancing On Ice presenter was ordered by doctors to have three moles removed, from her leg, lower back, and neck and a few days after the operation she was given the relief of an all-clear.
The future wife of Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard is now preparing to run 5k for Cancer Research UK's Race For Life.
Miss Bleakley said the experience had reminded her of her own mortality.
She said: "I had my moles checked, just because I thought it was a good thing to do, and I discovered I had to have three removed. They were all fine, thank the Lord, but I had a period of not knowing. It's a funny old thing when you start realising it's not like you're 18 and you think you're going to live for ever. You have that period when you're checking it and, goodness me, it was terrible. All sorts of thoughts run through your mind. But, thank the Lord, it was all fine."
Although Miss Bleakley had originally been worried about a different mole, the doctor found others that were more serious.
The scare has left her much more health-conscious and on a recent holiday she used factor 50 sunblock.
She said: "It just goes to show you've got to keep check of your own body. It's good to feel for lumps and bumps. I tell everyone to go and do that."
