DOE Road Safety Campaign Wins International Film Awards
The TV ads are emotional and hard to watch.
Now the 'Crashed Lives' road safety campaign has won four international creativity awards.
The Department of the Environment's (DOE) campaign only went on air in January but has won accolades from the US International Film and Video Festival in Hollywood, the Summit International Creative Awards in Oregon, the Golden Awards of Montreux.
The ads feature real stories of road tragedy.
These are Melissa Devine, who suffered spinal injury aged 19 when the car she was in crashed and she was not wearing a seatbelt; Martin Gallagher, 25, a pedestrian who died in a hit and run collision two years ago when a drunk driver hit him; and Melvyn Bussell, who crashed aged 19 within the speed limit but had been drinking and was not wearing a seatbelt; and Shannan McCracken, whose mobile phone showed she had been using it up until the time of the crash in which she died.
Environment Minister Alex Attwood said the campaign had "struck such a deep chord", and road deaths in Northern Ireland are at their lowest since records began - 22 people have died this year so far, compared to 27 at this time last year.
He said: "I commend those working so hard and so creatively to bring about these improvements. I would particularly like to thank the people who allowed their personal stories to be included."

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.

Pedestrian Dies Following Road Traffic Collision Ikn West Belfast
A female pedestrian in her 70s has tragically died following a road traffic collision in west Belfast on Saturday, 9th November. The incident occurred on Hannahstown Hill shortly after 6:50pm when two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene, and the injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.
