O'Neill Meets With Members Of Farming Organisations
Agriculture and Rural Development Minister, Michelle O’Neill today met with the leadership teams of the two main farming organisations in Ireland, the Irish Farmers’ Association and Ulster Farmers’ Union.
Speaking afterwards Minister O’Neill said: "This was a useful opportunity to discuss collectively the main issues affecting the farming sector across the island. We also took the opportunity to identify and agree on areas where we can continue to work together in the future to ensure successful implementation of the strategy for the benefit of all the people of this island. An example of how this cooperation has worked well has been the very good work achieved to date on implementing the all-island Animal Health and Welfare strategy."
Attendees at the meeting also discussed the ongoing CAP reform negotiations. The Minister explained that during this process it was crucial to seek out common ground among stakeholders, governments and the EU in an effort at agreeing the maximum regional flexibility to tailor CAP support to meet regional needs.
