Woman Raped In South Belfast
A woman was raped in a Belfast nightlife area in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Police have appealed for anyone who saw a woman in distress in the vicinity of Bradbury Place/Shaftesbury Square and Lower Donegall Road, between 1:30 and 2:30am on Wednesday June 27, to contact them.
A police spokeswoman said she was seen with a man aged about 20. He had dirty fair hair, and was wearing a navy blue check shirt and blue jeans.
It is believed the man got into a black taxi at Bradbury Place.
Crossmaglen Job Losses 'Unavoidable'
Administrators for a Crossmaglen supermarket that closed down on Friday have called the loss of jobs 'regrettable but unavoidable'.
Twenty-nine full- and part-time jobs were lost when Quinn’s Superstore in Newry Road closed suddenly.
Staff going to work on Friday morning were met by security guards and construction workers soon started to board up the premises.
It had been believed a buyer would take over, keeping their jobs safe.
Local councillor Terry Hearty said he had been negotiating on the staff’s behalf.
He said: It is shocking enough to be told that your job is in jeopardy but to receive no notification whatsoever is absolutely shameful.
'Hedge Funds' Too Valuable To Cut – RSBP
The Northern Ireland branch of a national wildlife charity has asked garden lovers and farmers not to cut their hedges during the summer.
Stephanie Sim of the RSPB said: "It's the height of the breeding season and many birds are either having second broods or their young are fledging and finding cover in hedges as they make their first unsteady flights. In addition to birds, hedges are great places for insects, and mammals like bats use them as feeding banks as they swoop up and down these insect-rich superhighways. Keeping your hedge tidy might be the last thing you want to think about at this time of the year."
Since a change in the law last year, it is now illegal to destroy nests during the breeding season.
Ms Sim warned that people could unwittingly commit a crime.

Attempted Carjacking In West Belfast
Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in west Belfast on Tuesday, November 19th. At around 5:30pm, a man entered a parked car at Hillhead Court and attempted to steal it. A woman passenger was assaulted when she resisted the man's demands. The suspect, described as a man in his 20s wearing all black, fled the scene on foot.

Man Jailed In Connection With Annahilt Cannabis Farm
The PSNI has welcomed the sentencing of a man at Craigavon Crown Court in connection with a cannabis farm disovered in Annahilt in February, 2023. Clive Weir, from the Annahilt area, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months on licence.
