FG Wilson Redundancies A Major Blow For East Antrim
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said that the news of 260 redundancies at FG Wilson’s is a massive blow to the economy of East Antrim.
Mr. McMullan stated: "FG Wilsons is one of the largest employers in the East Antrim area and one of the few that had a healthy export market so this news is totally unexpected.
"The loss of 260 jobs is a terrible blow to the local economy as not only will 260 people find themselves out of work but there is always a knock on effect to the local community.
"When large amounts of people are made redundant we usually see a downturn in people visiting bars, cinemas, restaurants and other recreation venues as well as taxis and local shops showing less turn over.
"I am calling on FG Wilson to make sure that the people facing redundancy have their full entitlement and that training is put in place to reskill the workforce so that they can access alternative employment.
"It is important we protect the manufacturing industry and I am calling on the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Development Arlene Foster to move now to protect the remaining jobs at this site."
