Bord na Móna Dispute Set For Labour Court
The Bord Na Móna Group of Unions will attend the Labour Court, if requested, to discuss the on-going dispute at the semi-state company concerning pay increases due under the Towards 2016 transitional agreement.
In response to the company’s decision to refer the dispute to the Labour Court, Chairman of the Bord Na Móna Group of Unions and SIPTU Organiser, Oliver McDonagh, said; “It has always been the position of the Group of Unions that we are fully prepared to avail of the services of a third party in regard to the present dispute with Bord Na Móna.
"However, the Group of Unions does not understand why the issue is now been referred to the Labour Court and believe that the proper procedure would be to go through the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) before the Court is asked to intervene."
Oliver McDonagh added: "The Group of Unions will attend, if invited by the Labour Court or LRC or any other legitimate third party process. If we do enter a process that requires no further industrial action then the action can be suspended, if so required by that process, until such time as the procedures are complete. It is therefore of the utmost importance that the company stress the urgency of the matter to any third party."
Earlier this week the Bord na Móna Group of Unions notified management at the company of two scheduled 48 hour work stoppages.
The first 48 hour work stoppage will begin on Wednesday, 25th July, at 12.01 a.m. and conclude at midnight on Thursday, 26th July. The second 48 hour stoppage will begin on Wednesday, 22nd August, at 12.01 a.m. and conclude at midnight on Thursday, 23rd August 2012.

Striking Hotel Staff Reinstated

The hotel group was criticised for cutting the wages of housekeeping staff that were on the minimum wage. The row arose after the outgoing government lowered the national minimum wage from €8.65 an hour to €7.

Second Day Of Strike For Bord na Móna Workers
Hundreds of Bord na Móna workers have undertaken a two-day work stoppage which began at 12.00 am on Wednesday, 27th June. The Bord Na Móna Group of Unions decided to embark on the strike action due to the refusal of management at the semi-state company to honour pay increases due to workers under the Towards 2016 transitional agreement.
