Ulster Bank Branches To Open On Twelfth
Ten Ulster Bank branches will open on Thursday, ignoring the Twelfth of July bank holiday.
It is the first time ever that Northern Ireland branches will open during the holiday, and is designed to help the customers still affected by the RBS Group computer failure on June 19 that left people unable to access up-to-date balances on their accounts.
The freeze meant that while staff worked through a backlog of transactions, direct debit payments could not come out of accounts and some customers faced charges from third parties, such as mortgage providers, for not paying on time.
Ulster Bank has promised not to leave any customer "permanently out of pocket" and said problems should be resolved by this Monday (July 16).
The bank's head of retail banking, Stephen Cruise, said this week would show whether the target, which comes after a line of missed goals, could be met.
He said: "We believe the majority will be fixed by July 16, but obviously we need to spend this week proving that."
Customers have been advised to keep details of any charges incurred due to the crisis, so they can be refunded.
The bank has not yet confirmed details of any potential compensation.
The branches remaining open on July 12 are:
Bangor
Belfast city centre
Coleraine
Cookstown
Lisburn (Bow Street)
Waterside
Newry
Omagh
Andersonstown
Connswater
