Beach Tragedy Girl Laid To Rest
The funeral has taken place of an 11-year-old girl who died when she got into trouble in the sea at Portballintrae on Sunday.
Bethany Cousins was rescued from the sea where she was swept away while bodyboarding, but the emergency services were unable to save her.
She was taken to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine but sadly died on Sunday evening.
Bethany's mother Ruth told the Lurgan Mail newspaper her daughter never gave the family a day's trouble.
She said: "If you could write down 100 things you want in a daughter that was her."
And her dad Alistair said: "She was a model daughter. She was so pleasant and so helpful."
The grieving parents thanked paramedics and hospital staff, as well as the people on the beach who helped them.
Ruth said: "We ended up with so many coats. We don’t know who owns them. People were giving their coats to Bethany and Ben for warmth. Everyone on the beach wanted to help in some way."
Sporty Bethany was a keen cyclist and had been a member of Lurgan Hockey Club since the age of six.
She was the middle child of three and is survived by her parents and two brothers, Alex and Ben.
Following a private service in the family home, Bethany's funeral service took place in Shankill Parish Church in Lurgan and she was buried in Lurgan Cemetery.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
