Conduit enquiry number to rival BT's 192 service
Europe’s leading independent supplier of directory enquiries, Conduit has launched 11 88 88, an alternative to BT's 192 service.
Conduit say any calls to 11 88 88 can be made from any landline or mobile phone and cost from 20p, exactly half the 40p cost of dialing BT 192. Each year over 700 million calls are made in the UK costing British consumers and businesses in excess of £280 million.
In addition to cost savings, Conduit says the 11 88 88 service provides a more enhanced directory enquiry service than currently available through BT 192. As well as being able to quickly find business and residential numbers, 11 88 88 offers call completion, unlimited number searches, SMS number delivery to mobile phones and classified business searches.
With operations in four European countries, Conduit handles more than 100 million directory enquiry calls a year and is already the UK’s second biggest directory enquiry supplier. In addition to 11 88 88, the company handles directory enquiry calls on behalf of Telewest as well as three of the four UK mobile phone networks.
Commenting on the launch, Liam Young, Chief Executive Office of Conduit, said: “Directory enquiries is one of those necessary business tools that is rarely given much thought. However as no budget holder in their right mind would pay twice as much to receive an inferior service, we are confident businesses will vote with their fingers and dial 11 88 88 in order to take advantage of cost savings. BT has been using its monopoly to overcharge callers for far too long. Now with 11 88 88, the cost of directory enquiries has halved and British businesses are being charged the price it should cost.”
Oftel opened up directory enquires to competition in December 2002, when a range of six digit numbers beginning 118 launched ahead of 192 being switched off for good in August 2003.
Further advice on costs savings through 11 88 88 is available by contacting the Conduit Business Solutions Team on 08080 11 88 88.
