Author Maeve Binchy Has Died
Tributes have poured in to Irish author Maeve Binchy, who has died at the age of 72 after a short illness.
Binchy sold more than 40m books in her lifetime, in a total of 38 languages.
Her works include The Lilac Bus, Circle of Friends and Light a Penny Candle.
She wrote her first novel in her spare time from work as a journalist at the Irish Times.
The County Dublin-born woman won a lifetime achievement award from the Irish Book Awards in 2010.
New Policing Board Head
Members of the Northern Ireland Policing Board have welcomed the Board's new Chief Executive, Sam Pollock.
Mr Pollock resigned from the NI Police Ombudsman's office because he had lost confidence in the body.
His move helped force the early departure of former Ombudsman Al Hutchinson.
Board Chair Brian Rea said: "Mr Pollock brings a wealth of experience to the role and Members are looking forward to working with him in the time ahead."
Mr Pollock has worked in the Probation Service and as a governor in the Maze high-security prison.
County Antrim Woman's Olympic Joy
A woman from Armoy has qualified for the semi-finals of an Olympic kayaking event.
Hannah Craig finished 14th of 15 people who qualified for the K1 Kayak Canoe Slalom event.
To fund her Olympic bid, she sold clothes at Belfast's market.
