George Best's Former Home To Be Let Out To Tourists

The childhood home of Northern Ireland's most famous footballing son has been sold and will become a guest house.

Visitors will be able to sleep in the small Cregagh bedroom where Best spent his childhood days.

Following a £100,000 investment from the Ulster Community Investment Trust, the house has been sold to a not-for-profit property development company, Landmark East.

It will be let out as self-catering holiday accommodation - a plan the Best family has backed.

Norman McNarry, George Best's brother-in-law, told UTV: "It will give lots of people from across the world the opportunity to come and stay here to stay in the same room that George best had his meals in, to sleep in the same bedroom that George Best slept in.

"So I think it's a very positive move."

It was from this house in Burren Way that Best's coffin left after his death in 2005.

And on the surrounding streets, a pre-legend George Best learned to kick a ball.

It was thought the property would be turned into a museum, but the lettings project could breathe more new life into the area.
