'Trainspotter' On Bail From Terrorism Charges
A 27-year-old County Down man who was described as a "nerd" and a "trainspotter" has been let out on bail on terrorism charges.
Ryan Lavery, from Ballymoat Road, Downpatrick, is accused of collecting information likely to be of use to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.
It is alleged he had a list of registration numbers and photographs of vehicles coming in and out of Ballykinlar army base.
These are both described as being likely to be of use to terrorists.
He was arrested in January and at an earlier hearing Downpatrick Magistrates Court was told the defendant's father worked at the Ballykinlar base.
Mr Lavery's solicitor also told the court at the previous hearing that his client had photographs of him holding a machine gun at an "open day" at the base in 2011.
The district judge agreed today to let Mr Lavery attend medical appointments in Downpatrick, for which his bail needed to be altered.
Meanwhile, Mr Lavery's mother, Collette McKendry, also appeared in court in Downpatrick today.
The 43-year-old from Ballynoe Road, Downpatrick, is accused of disorderly behaviour and obstructing police in Newcastle on 14 June.
It is understood the Police Ombudsman's Office has been informed about the incident.
Both are due to appear in court again on 6 September.

Two men escape from Co Down courthouse
Two men have escaped from a courthouse in Co Down today. The men, described by police as "dangerous", are believed to have overpowered a police officer during the escape which took place at Downpatrick Court House just before 1pm. He was taken to hospital shortly afterwards suffering from a head injury and severe shock.

A 64-year-old Downpatrick man has been sentenced to eight years for six counts of sexual assault against children. At Downpatrick Crown Court on Monday, 27 November, the man, named Damien Craig, was sentenced to four years in custody and four years on licence.
