Tributes To Pensioner After Fatal Quad Bike Accident

A pensioner has died following an accident on a quad bike.

Eric Irvine, 73, died in hospital in Fermanagh on Thursday.

The accident happened in Trillick in County Tyrone as the retired farmer was traveling to his family’s saw mill.

It is understood no other people were involved in the fatal crash.

Mr Irvine is thought to have suffered head injuries after falling from the vehicle shortly after starting it up.

UUP councillor Bert Wilson is related to Mr Irvine's family through marriage - his son's wife, who is eight months pregnant, is the pensioner’s daughter.

Mr Wilson said: "It was such a tragic accident. It really has been a complete shock.

"Eric has been at the mill for a lifetime and even though he wasn’t as active as he used to be, he had a very active brain."

He will be sadly missed by his family and the general area. Everyday he was in the mill. "He had a kind word and a joke for everybody. He would have been known far and wide. The family are really shattered."
