Paddy Barnes Defeat: 'Don't Want To See Zou Again'

North Belfast boxer Paddy Barnes has narrowly missed out on a chance at gold in the Olympics.

He won a second Olympic bronze after China’s defending champion Zou Shiming won the light-flyweight semi-finals.

Barnes's score was down at 11-8 after two rounds, but a sterling effort in the third round pulled him up to 15-15.

Zou was given the verdict on countback, and will continue to the final.

The two men fought in Beijing four years ago but Barnes was beaten 15-0.

This time, the 25-year-old Ireland boxer was a more challenging opponent – but his attempts ended in disappointment.

Barnes said: "I gave it my all. I went in there and threw everything at him but he is so, so tricky.

"And once I had him pinned down and was opening up, he's so smart and just picks you off and moves."

"If I hadn't started so slowly, I would have won the fight.

"Hopefully, he will be retired in four years time. I don't want to see that man again."
