15-Year-Old 'Scared' To Report Rape

A 15-year-old girl was too afraid to tell anyone she had been raped because she arranged to meet her 28-year-old attacker herself, a court has heard.

Dominic Brendan Rogers, from Mullaghmeash Road, Feeny, appeared at Magherafelt Magistrates Court charged with raping the schoolgirl between January 3 and 15.

His alleged victim cannot be named for legal reasons.

Mr Rogers nodded when he was asked if he understood the charge.

He has been released on bail, despite a PSNI constable stating he had evaded a warrant for three years in relation to a different matter in the past.

He is banned from contacting his alleged victim or entering the 30mph speed limit area of her village.

The constable said that the victim of the alleged attack lives in Moneyneany village, near Draperstown.

She told district judge Desmond Perry: "The injured party is a 15-year-old female. She said she was frightened to tell people because she had arranged to meet him."

Mr Rogers must report to Waterside police station in Londonderry three times a week until his next court hearing on October 17.
