Concern Expressed For Greenstar Jobs

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Workers' Rights, Senator David Cullinane has today responded with concern to the news that up to 800 jobs could be at risk at the waste disposal company Greenstar, which has been placed in receivership.

Speaking from Leinster House, Senator Cullinane has stated that every effort must now be made to ensure that the jobs are saved.

He said: "The news that some 800 jobs nationwide are at risk must come as a shock to the workers involved, and to their families. Every effort must be made by the receiver to protect the jobs, and to ensure that the company remains a going concern.

"Sinn Féin has consistently warned that privatisation of waste collections services and the presence of multiple operators was unsustainable, and would likely lead to a deterioration of services, and ultimately jobs.

"Our focus now must be to ensure that the provision of waste disposal services to the 80,000 domestic and 12,000 business customers is not disrupted, but more crucially, to protect the 800 jobs."
