Seminar discusses NI money laundering problems

Northern Ireland's money laundering problem is to be discussed today at a seminar in Belfast.

Local banks and building societies will be told by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) how money laundering can and has possibly affected their business.

The FSA has powers to investigate any regulated company or individual in the banking, insurance and financial services sector.

In a similar vein, the recently launched Assets Recovery Agency will investigate dirty money generated by illegal activities ranging from prostitution to protection rackets.
