More Than A Million Cigarettes Seized

Smuggled cigarettes have been seized at Belfast docks by UK Border Force officials.

The cigarettes, worth £250,00 in tax alone, were packed in cardboard boxes than were marked as being full of a plastic bag delivery for a supermarket.

Progress Made In Community Policing

A new Criminal Justice Inspection report has found that the PSNI has made "substantial progress" to improve community policing.

A review published today followed a 2009 inspection when the CJI made some recommendations for improvement.

The review found that 700 police officers now work on neighbourhood policing in Northern Ireland.

No Cause Found For School Fire

No definite cause has been found for a fire that destroyed a special school in County Tyrone on Friday night.

Samples have been taken from the scene at Arvalee Special School in Omagh, after an examination of the area did not lead police and forensic officers to any conclusions.

The school specialises in working with pupils aged three to 19 who have learning difficulties.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

Education Minister Paul Givan has announced a review of the eligibility criteria for free school meals and uniform grants, seeking input from the public with a new consultation. The consultation will examine the number of children and young people who could benefit from free school meals and uniform grants.

Fire At L'Derry Primary School Being Treated As Suspicious
A fire at a L'Derry primary school is believed to have been started deliberately. The fire at the Good Shepherd Primary School, in the Waterside area of the city, was reported shortly before 8pm on Wednesay night, 10 August.
