Alley Gates Wanted In Belfast
A call has gone out for engineering and construction companies who would like to know more about tendering opportunities to supply and install alley gates across Belfast.
Free information sessions with Belfast City Council will be held in the group space of the Ulster Hall on Tuesday 11 September from 2.30pm-4pm, and on Wednesday 12 September from 9.30am-11am.
A short presentation will be given about the council's procurement process as well as a general overview of this specific tender opportunity for the council’s city-wide alley-gating project.
Councillor Deirdre Hargey, chair of the council's Strategic Policy & Resources Committee, said: "Every year we purchase around £55m worth of goods and services, from paper supplies to bin lorries. While all our tenders are advertised online, we made a commitment as part of our Investment Programme to support local business and these events are aimed at highlighting the opportunities that are out there and perhaps bringing that to a new audience."
To date, 350 alley gates have been installed across the city with the support of local communities who say it has helped to reduce anti-social behaviour and fear of crime.
The value of the tenders is between £1.5m and £2.5m over three years with a possible extension of a further year.
While the events next week are free, registration is required. To sign up, email economicdevelopment@belfastcity.gov.uk by Monday 10 September.

Rise in NI unemployment figures
The number of people unemployed in Northern Ireland is on the increase according to the latest figures. Labour force statistics released on Wednesday revealed that some 46,000 people are unemployed, a rise of 3,000 on the this time last year.

First Dose Vaccines Still Available
First dose Covid-19 vaccinations are still available from mobile vaccination clinics, the Department of Health have reported. Vaccination is also available by appointment for the Moderna vaccine at around 50 participating community pharmacies with more pharmacies expected to be joining the programme.
