Injury Forces Bethany Firth Out Of Breaststroke Heats

Northern Ireland's youngest Paralympian has pulled out of a swimming race today because of a shoulder injury.

Bethany Firth, 16, aggravated an existing injury when she won gold in the S14 100m backstroke last Friday night, with a personal best time of 1:08.93.

The teenager from Seaforde, county Down, also had to miss the 200m freestyle heats at the Aquatics Centre on Monday.

Today she would otherwise have been swimming in the SB14 100m breaststroke heats.

The schoolgirl, who struggled with injuries before the Games in London but was fit enough to make her Paralympics debut, only took up swimming three years ago.
