Bookstore Donates To Children's Literacy Campaign
Bookshop Eason’s has donated thousands of pounds to a children's charity in a bid to improve reading among 5-12 year-olds.
The €20,000 (£15,748) donation to Barnardo's will be shared between Barnardo's Ireland and Barnardo's NI.
The cash will come from Eason's loyalty card programme, with a contribution made by the retailer on behalf of each loyalty card holder registered within the last 12 months.
The partnership called 'Learning for Life' will work with children aged 5-12 to help them to fulfill their potential at school and improve their ability to learn by supporting a range of Barnardo’s NI education programmes including literacy, confidence building, homework clubs and after school assistance. As part of the initiative Eason's will also be running a number of reading events in store.
Lynda Wilson of Barnardo's NI said, "Barnardo's believes that education is one of the best ways for children and young people to overcome early disadvantage and grow up with strong aspirations and prospects for future employment. Eason's commitment to helping raise educational achievement mirrors our own and we are delighted to be working with them on this partnership."
In addition to the launch donation of £15,748 / €20,000 Eason’s also plans to hold a series of in-store fundraising events.
