Codie The Collie Dies After Fire Attack
A collie dog that was set on fire in a vicious attack two weeks ago has died.
The three-year-old, called Codie, suffered serious injuries after being doused with flammable liquid and set alight in Maghaberry.
She was put to sleep on Saturday night.
Codie's owners posted on Facebook that the vets had tried everything they could.
They wrote: "We are all gutted, but we know she was suffering and was only going to get even worse."
East Londonderry MLA Geoge Robinson, of the DUP, said he believed "tougher legislation" should be introduced to deal with acts of animal cruelty "in a tough and uncompromising manner".
Detectives have arrested two people in connection with the attack, who have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
PSNI Lisburn appealed for calm, reminding the public that investigations take time to process, and said evidence will be passed on to the Public Prosecutions Service.
