Police Hunt Suspected Pet-Killer
Police are hunting a suspected pet-killer who has left poisoned dog food around Warrenpoint.
The Newry Democrat has reported that four dogs and cats have died in recent weeks after eating dog food from bags in the Parkside area of the town.
Police officers recently removed five bags of poison-laced food from Parkside.
And SDLP councillor Michael Carr told the newspaper he "absolutely condemned" the suspected cases of poisoning.
Mr Carr said: "There is a lot of anger in the community about this. It is very vicious to attack a cherished pet, which is often more than just a pet, particularly for people living on their own, and there are many senior residents in Parkside.
"To lose a pet like this is devastating and it's very concerning that someone would go to the bother of putting poisoned food out. It's sinister.
"It seems to be a growing trend at the minute to attack animals, such as the young dog Cody that was burnt a few weeks ago. These attacks are vicious, and very cowardly in many ways too."
Mr Carr said he would call on anyone who knows anything about attacks on animals to contact the police, and said those responsible must "desist immediately".
Anyone with information can contact police on 0845 600 8000.
