Seven Charged With Sham Marriage Immigration Offences
Seven people including a solicitor and trainee solicitor are facing immigration charges relating to an alleged sham marriage at City Hall in August 2011.
The alleged sham marriage groom was John Robert Nicholl, 55, from Sea Road in Castlerock, County Londonderry.
And Edward Nicholl, 59, from Glebe Avenue in Coleraine, is charged with participating in a sham marriage by acting as a groom.
Solicitor John Irwin, faces charges in breach of immigration laws - specifically, completing driving licence applications for non-EU citizens in breach of immigration laws.
Michelle Lyons, a trainee solicitor, faces eight charges, including facilitating a sham marriage and completing a business transfer.
She is also charged with making fraudulent driving licence applications for foreign nationals for personal gain.
Two Chinese women and a man were also charged in connection with breaches of the immigration laws.

Majority Of MLAs Favour Same Sex Marriage
A majority of MLAs have voted in favour of legalising same sex marriage in Northern Ireland, however the DUP has lodged a petition of concern ahead of the vote. This means that while the majority favoured same sex marriage the motion was lost. 53 MLAs voted in favour and 51 voted against. Another politician abstained from the vote.

Man Jailed For Sham Marriage Plot
A Pakistani man who acted as a witness at a bogus wedding was jailed for 9 months and fined £1,500 at Newry crown court for attempting to breach UK immigration rules. Haroon Nawab, 24, pleaded guilty at the same court on 6 March 2012 to assisting unlawful immigration (facilitation).

As the police in Londonderry were forced to apologise following an earlier arrest blunder during a supposed 'sham wedding', a separate bride and groom detained as they prepared to take their wedding vows on Wednesday in Belfast have been charged with immigration offences.

MPs in Westminster are set to vote this afternoon, 09 July, on whether or not to legalise same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland. A debate on the matter came about as a bill to keep the region running in the absence of Stormont's devolved government advances through Parliament.
