Derry Council Jobs ‘a Risk’
The head of Derry City Council has said 14 management posts are under threat as part of a management reorganisation.
Chief Executive Sharon O'Connor said the plan was about improving the structure.
"This is about having the right people in the right jobs and delivering the quality of service the public will expect.
"This is not about creating redundancies; this is about creating a management structure that is fit for purpose.
"So there are no posts to go at this stage. There are clearly a number of posts at risk because we are developing a new structure.
She added that those affected would be offered other positions within Derry City Council.
The changes will take place as the city prepares for major initiatives including UK City of Culture in 2013.
Farmers Plead Guilty To Animal Cruelty Charges
Two farmers from County Antrim have pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a bull that had to be destroyed because of its injuries.
45-year-old Gregory Boyd from Rasharkin and his father Samuel Boyd who is aged in his 70s were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates Court.
They also pleaded guilty to permitting an act of cruelty to the bull.
Samuel Boyd was fined £750. Gregory Boyd will be sentenced next month.
Student Nursing Allowance Reinstated
Northern Ireland's health minister, Edwin Pots, has reversed an earlier decision to scrap a uniform and book allowance for nursing and midwifery students.
However, the allowance will be restored for this year only.
Earlier this month Poots also announced annual bursaries would also be cut by 15%.
There was outrage with student representatives describing it as "absolutely catastrophic".
There was also criticism of the timing as students were about to begin courses.
However the reduction in the non-means tested bursary and an increase in means tested allowances will still proceed.
