Man Charged Over School Vandalism
A man has been charged following vandalism and theft at a special school over the weekend.
James Rodgers, 23, from Drumaness Walk in Downpatrick, has appeared in court charged with trespassing, theft of goods, including £5,000 in cash, damaging six school buses and various other related charges.
Mr Rodgers is also accused of attempting to steal two of the vehicles. He has been remanded in custody and will appear via video link in Downpatrick on 27 September.
Former Principal On Sex Charges
A former headmaster of Rockport Preparatory School in north Down has been brought before a judge on counts of indecent assault.
John Agg Large, 72, of Spilsby in Lincolnshire, was headmaster at the private school in Craigavad between 1974 and 1986. The former principal pleaded not guilty at Downpatrick Crown Court to the 10 charges, alleged to have been committed between January 1980 and January 1986.
It is as yet unknown whether the alleged victim was a pupil.
The trial is set to commence in December.
Confiscation Order For Tyre Recycling Firm
A County Down tyre recycling business was yesterday handed a £120,000 Confiscation Order under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 at Newry Crown Court.
OM Recycling Ltd. was served with the Order in relation to waste offences.
Company directors Mr Gerard Farmer and Mr Gerard O’Malley admitted to Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) officers during site inspections in 2009 and 2010 that they had allowed excess tyres to be stored on the site, contrary to the conditions specified in their waste management license.
OM Recycling Ltd. and the two directors pleaded guilty to four offences each.
The court made the Confiscation Order along with fining the two men £250 for each of the four charges
Lisburn Man Attacked During Car Theft
A Lisburn man has been punched in the face following an attempt by three men to force their way into his house.
Just before 20:00, the man answered his front door and was confronted by the men, who hit him before demanding the keys to his car.
One of the men drove off in the red Honda Civic, which has not yet been recovered.
The victim is said to be badly shaken.
Police have appealed for anyone who might be able to aid in their inquiries to come forward.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.

A man has been charged after a bomb hoax at a primary school in Ballymena. An investigation was launched after Harryville Primary School on Casement Street received a bomb warning on Tuesday, 10 October. A search was carried out at the school. A 60-year-old man was arrested and charged with "communicating false information causing bomb hoax".

The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.
