New-style student challenge proves a success
The final of the Chartered Institute of Building's Student Challenge has seen the entrants rise to a new-style challenge designed to test a wide range of skills.
Teams from each of the Institute's regions were required to produce a Client Briefing Document (CBD) to advise on the accessibility of a learning resource centre for the disabled, as well as ten minute presentations based around their CBDs. The teams were each provided with an information pack, and were able to make use of appropriate literature (including BS 8300 and Part M of the Building Regulations), IT and presentation facilities and access to experts on site.
Each group tackled the project in their own specific way and some interesting observations and ideas were forthcoming within many elements of the presentations.
The competition was won by Chelmsford College, with South Devon College in second place, and the University of Abertay awarded third place. The other finalists, Chichester College, Bexley College, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Central Lancashire were also congratulated for their efforts and their individual success within the regional rounds.
