Hope Street Opens To Two Way Traffic
Belfast’s Hope Street is to be opened to two-way traffic from Sunday evening.
The Roads Service has said the modifications to the city centre street will create an additional northbound route for traffic on Great Victoria Street via Hope Street, Sandy Row, Durham Street and College Square North.
The junction of Sandy Row, Hope Street and Linfield Road will be closed to through traffic from 18:00 on Saturday to about 20:00 on Sunday.
The Service has confirmed that "local access will be maintained at all times".
The junction of Sandy Row, Hope Street and Linfield Road would be controlled by traffic signals throughout the work.
The Roads Service said electronic signs on Sandy Row, Durham Street and Great Victoria Street would "provide advanced notification to motorists of the road closure and subsequently advise them of the new two-way traffic arrangements on Hope Street".
A signed diversion will also be in operation throughout the development.
Hope Street will then be closed again for a "short period in mid-November" to complete resurfacing.
Meanwhile, motorists have been warned to be careful in the early stages of the new arrangements, as drivers begin to familiarise themselves with the new routes.
The Roads Service said the resurfacing of footpaths at the back of City Hall would also be taking place
It said that this "would be completed over the next few weeks", weather permitting, and that to "minimise disruption to motorists and pedestrians it is intended that this work will be carried out in the late evenings or at weekends."
