Employment conference to address skill gaps
Partners In Learning, a new event aimed at the work-based learning market, is to take place 14-15 May at the NEC, Birmingham.
Developed in partnership with the Association of Learning Providers (ALP), the event is based on the concept of training providers, employers, colleges and awarding bodies working together, as partners, to address current skill gaps and improve the delivery of vocational training.
A programme of free seminars will cover a range of topics, including the ways in which E-learning can help reduce training costs, and how to develop NVQ programmes. Rt. Hon Charles Clarke MP, Secretary of State for Education and Skills will be delivering the opening address, while a diverse list of speakers will then explore issues such as quality of leadership and management in learning, raising retention and achievement and attracting new learners.

JobBridge Scheme To Be Scrapped
The JobBridge scheme is to be scrapped and replaced. Sinn Féin Social Protection spokesperson John Brady TD welcomed the announcement. He said: "The JobBridge Scheme is exploitative and it replaces real proper paid employment. We therefore welcome the news this evening that the scheme is to be scrapped and replaced.

The survey of over 1,500 people to celebrate the national roll out of the Adult Learning Grant (ALG), revealed that almost a quarter of the UK (22%) would save up their £30 weekly grant to help them set up their own business.
