Invest NI Cannot Compensate Patton Subcontractors
Invest Northern Ireland has said they are unable to offer compensation to subcontractors owed money by the ailing construction firm Patton Group.
The company is facing difficulties after it was placed into the hands of administrators last week.
190 staff at Patton's in Ballymena have been laid off.
The Statement from Invest NI cames after a group of subcontractors who claim they are owed about £17m by Patton's asked the executive for a rescue package to help them.
But Invest NI replied saying it could not provide compensation.
Patton Group’s troubles are rippling through Northern Ireland’s industry.
The "Hill of the O'Neill" park in Dungannon is closed after work there halted. Work on another Patton contract, the new fire station in Omagh, has also stopped.
The Department of Enterprise (DETI) has quoted Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster as saying she recognised "the devastating effect that the failure of the Patton Group has had on the Group's employees, their families and increasingly on the owners, employees and families of the Patton Group sub-contractors."
But no financial assistance is available.
"It will not be possible to provide any direct financial support to creditors of the Patton Group," the DETI said.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services

147 jobs have been lost as another Northern Irish construction firm suffers from the Patton Group fall-out. Dunloy-based Joseph Hughes Group, a sub-contractor with Patton, has been placed into the hands of administrators. Its position was said to be "untenable" due to the Patton Group collapse.
