PM Confirms G8 Summit To Be Held In Fermanagh
Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that next year's G8 summit is to be held in Northern Ireland.
Minister Arlene Foster was with David Cameron in Craigavon when he confirmed that the 39th summit will be held at the Lough Erne complex in Fermanagh.
Mr Cameron said: "I've decided the right place to hold it is right here in Northern Ireland and we'll be holding the G8 on the 17th and 18th of June at Lough Erne in County Fermanagh.
"I think this will be a brilliant advertisement for Northern Ireland."
Arlene Foster said: "Today's announcement by the Prime Minister is marvellous news for Northern Ireland. It will create huge opportunities for tourism and for the economy.
"The G8 summit brings together the heads of eight of the world’s most powerful economies and confirmation that Fermanagh is the venue for 2013 means we really can show the world what Northern Ireland has to offer."
The G8 was last held in the UK in 2005, when Gleneagles hosted the exclusive gathering of world leaders.
The Minister added: "The Lough Erne resort faced stiff competition from several other locations across the UK and I am delighted that it has been chosen as the most suitable host venue. I’m sure when US President Barack Obama and the other world leaders attending the summit see the stunning scenery for themselves, they will agree it was the right choice."

New measures to make using a hand held mobile phone when driving an offence will come into effect in Northern Ireland on 1 February 2004. The move was announced today by Criminal Justice Minister, John Spellar and Environment Minister Angela Smith.

An investigation has been launched into alleged "offensive and distasteful" banners at a bonfire in L'Derry. According to reports, banners appeared at a bonfire on Meenan Square in the Bogside on Sunday, making threats to police officers and allegedly a member of the public.

Funding Secured For Voluntary Teacher Redundancies
Funding has been found for 30 voluntary redundancies, Education Minister John O'Dowd has announced. It follows protests held earlier this week over the low number of voluntary redundancies that the minister had approved. Previously 46 voluntary redundancies had been allowed but only in schools that where due to close or that were being amalgamated.
