NI Health Trust Chairman Sacked
The chairman of the Northern Ireland Health Trust has been sacked.
This is the first time a senior health manager has been sacked from a Northern Ireland trust.
The removal of Trust chairman Jim Stewart follows a failure to meet targets in accident and emergency provision.
Health Minister Edwin Poots said Mr Stewart had fallen short of the high standards expected of someone in his position.
The move came as a result of poor performance at Antrim Area Hospital's accident and emergency department. The hospital has experienced excessive trolley waits as well as a failure to meet four and 12-hour targets.
But on Monday, Mr Stewart accused Mr poots of victimising him over his refusal to sack Sean Donaghy, the chief executive of the Northern Health Trust.
The Health Minister said: "Against a background of very serious and unresolved issues with the performance of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust on emergency care, I need to be sure that the leadership team are all working together to resolve the problem.
"Whatever may or may not have been said before Monday 10 December, it was wholly inappropriate for Mr Stewart to speak publicly as he did on Monday."
He said the remarks "confirmed that Mr Stewart does not share my view that much better performance against the 12-hour standard for A&E Departments is both possible and essential in the short term".
He said people in positions of responsibility "must demonstrate the highest standards of corporate and personal conduct based on recognition that patients and clients always come first".

Around 65 Beds To Go Across Northern Health Trust Area
Around 65 beds are to go across the Northern Health Trust area as part of planned cuts to services, the trust has said. 44 beds are being axed at Whiteabbey Hospital in Co Antrim. Management said the cuts were "temporary" at a public meeting in Newtownabbey on Thursday, 21 September. The beds could go as early as Novemeber.

Nine Residential Care Homes To Close
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is set to close all nine of its residential care homes starting in November this year, according to Unison. Two homes, Pinewood in Ballymena and Westlands in Cookstown are to close in November, followed by Rathmoyle in Moyle in January 2014.

Mental Health Service Waiting Times 'Deeply Concerning'
Sinn Féin have said that the number of children and young people waiting on referrals for mental health services is "deeply concerning". The party's spokesperson for Mental Health, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, was speaking after figures showed that 557 young people are waiting for a referral in the Belfast Trust, while two Trusts did not have records.
