Sean Quinn Released From Prison

Businessman Sean Quinn Snr has been released from prison after serving his sentence for contempt of court.

The 66-year-old served nine weeks in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.

He had been released temporarily to spend Christmas with his family in Ballyconnell, County Cavan.

The sentence was imposed on Mr Quinn following a long battle with IBRC, formerly bailed-out bank Anglo Irish.

IBRC claims the Quinn family owes it over 2bn euros and is currently attempting to recover the money from their assets.

It was alleged by the group’s lawyers that members of the Quinn family tried to strip assets from their firms and put millions of pounds worth of property beyond the reach of the bank, despite a court order specifically ordering them not to.

Dublin High Court ruled in July that Sean Quinn Sr, his son Sean Quinn Jr and his nephew, Peter Darragh Quinn, were in contempt of that court order.

Sean Quinn Sr served a nine-week prison sentence, while his son spent three months in jail.

Peter Darragh Quinn did not show up for sentencing in July. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

He has avoided sentencing by remaining in Northern Ireland outside the court's jurisdiction.
