Manufacturing group lobby against workspace tax
The Northern Ireland Manufacturing Group has held meetings with SDLP MP John Hume and UUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson to highlight the potential consequences of the proposed new tax on manufacturing.
The meetings – which form part of a week-long focus on the issue's repercussions for the province – have seen politicians hearing first-hand from a variety of business delegations about the consequences for the local manufacturing sector if the proposed tax on workspace is implemented.
The Northern Ireland Manufacturing Group has described the tax as "unviable", and has warned that the policy is being implemented without a proper study to quantify the numbers of businesses that will close as a result of the move.
The Group has already met with the Department of Trade and Investment and Invest NI to discuss the issue, but so far, no alternative policies have been put forward.
