Murder Accused Attends Father's Funeral
An 18-year-old rising GAA star has attended the funeral of his father, amid accusations he was responsible for his murder.
Aloysius Hackett, 60, was a respected figure in GAA circles in Tyrone and a former chairman of St. Macartan's GAA club.
He was found dead at his home on Aghindarragh Road in Augher on Friday night. He is reported to have died after sustaining a gunshot wound.
His son Sean, also a well-known Gaelic football player who has captained the Tyrone minor team, was granted compassionate bail to attend the funeral at St Macartan's Church outside Augher.
The teenager has been charged by detectives investigating the incident.
He was forbidden to use a mobile phone or the internet while travelling to and from the funeral and was permitted to speak only to two chaperones; a solicitor and Tyrone manager Mickey Harte.
He was not allowed to speak to immediate family members.
After the church service, his father is due to be buried in the adjoining cemetery.
A minute's silence was held for 60-year-old Mr Hackett at Sunday's McKenna Cup match between Tyrone and Derry in Omagh.
