Derry City Council receives award for training achievement

Derry City Council has received an award as the top local authority in Northern Ireland for its efforts in training candidates in life saving techniques.

The Donaldson Trophy is awarded each year by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS), Ulster Branch in recognition of the local authority that has trained the most candidates for RLSS life saving and life support awards. Cllr Sean Carr, Chairman of the Recreation and Leisure Committee for Derry City Council said that he was delighted with the recognition given to the Council.

“For many years Derry City Council has been involved in the training of enthusiasts of all ages who are interested in achieving these Lifesavers Awards. These provide qualifications that allow individuals to be competent in life saving skills. This promotes wider opportunities in areas such as youth work, leisure activity and from a Council’s perspective creates a pool of highly qualified people who can avail of employment opportunities at our leisure centres.

“We are delighted that the RLSS have acknowledged our commitment and work in this area and we thank them for their continued support and encouragement," he concluded.
