Dolours Price Found Dead

Convicted IRA bomber Dolours Price has been found dead at her home in Malahide, County Dublin.

Ms Price's family confirmed she died on Wednesday night.

The 62-year-old was a prominent figure in the IRA, having been jailed for taking part in a bomb attack at the Old Bailey in London in 1973.

The attack injured 200 people.

Dolours Price was the subject of much controversy in more recent years, having aligned herself with dissident republicans and criticised the leadership of Martin McGuinness and Gerry Adams.

She famously accused Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams of having been her commanding officer in the IRA; a claim Mr Adams has always denied.

She will also be remembered for her contribution to Boston College’s 'Belfast Project'; a series of recorded interviews featuring testimonies by former IRA members and loyalist paramilitaries.

The interviews were carried out under the condition that they would only be released posthumously.

But the PSNI launched a legal battle, demanding the tapes be handed over as part of an investigation into the murder of Belfast mother-of-ten Jean McConville by the IRA in 1972.

The action caused widespread outrage from many academics, including those at Boston College, who said the breach of confidentiality could put lives at risk and jeopardise future academic research on the history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Ms Price’s family is expected to make a statement later.
